Sustainable Self Care No. 4: Rebecca Ballard, Founder of Maven Women
During our wellness journeys, here is something we’ve found to be true: The most powerful self care starts with finding rituals you will ACTUALLY DO!
Self care doesn't need to feel hard! It should work for you and we believe you'll find this series, “Sustainable Self Care” inspiring and full of new ideas!
We are leading a self care and yoga experience in partnership with Prana, a sustainable & fair trade clothing company, at the Fair Trade Fashion Show (FTFS) November 11, 2018 and so we’ve asked the ladies of the FTFS to share what’s working for them! You’ll get new ideas and be inspired by how different we all are! No two ladies are the same.
Self care shouldn’t feel hard. It should feel sustainable in your unique life.
Rebecca Ballard, founder @mavenwomen!
How I get self care to fit into my life:
Self care waxes and wanes based on where I am with my company and my family, as I became a mother last year and that changed everything in this realm. However I try and honor the seasons and match my care to the needs of that time. I’ve learned to draw clear boundaries and say “No,” when needed, so I can say “Yes” to giving myself the time I need.
My current go-to self care ritual:
I have a few. I just got back from a me-cation to Miami. It’s the second trip I’ve taken myself on, a need I felt after I had a child. I love the freedom of just doing whatever I please. I also try and read before bed at night, sometimes by candlelight, to transition into sleep as I’ve always been a light sleeper. I go to the gym a few times a week and also have an active faith life that includes attending church regularly and and prayer and meditation.
Where you’ll find her at the fashion show:
I’ve applied for a booth and to be on the runway and I look forward to showing you some of @MavenWomen’s great pieces there. I’m also running the advocacy campaign, #votewithyourwallet, that we are in the process of launching, so you’ll find me amidst those activities. I also want to pitch in at events wherever I can, so if Sica needs something I’m happy to oblige. It’s hard to pull of an event of this scale and I’m honored to be on the Planning Committee.
Our fav takaways from Rebecca? We love that she tries to “honor the seasons and match my care to the needs of that time.” That’s powerful! And something we will be talking about in our Self Care Yoga & Wellness Experience on Nov. 11!
In addition to running the ethical clothing brand, Maven Women, Rebecca has helped launch the “Vote With Your Wallet” campaign - a powerful reminder that each of your choices in fashion impacts your world and pledge to #votewithyourwallet this year and onward. We have taken the pledge and look forward to it’s official announcement at the Fair Trade Fashion Show!

Why talk about self care?
The @fairtradefashionshow believes that anyone who cares about fair trade fashion and changing the "status quo" is an activist...but when you're someone who cares about change it's easy to pour all your energy and passion out without prioritizing self care.
You risk burn out or even disease without a conscious commitment to self care!
Which is why we will be sharing simple self care tips with BIG results and offering an all-levels yoga class for everyone during the marketplace November 11, 2018. It's like a hug for your body! Self care doesn't need to feel hard! It should work for you and we believe you'll leave inspired with some new ideas.
You do need to grab a FREE ticket to the event. Grab your ticket here. And come early! Prana will have a special gift for the first 10 guests!
The marketplace is free and open to the public from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Experience fair trade fashion, food, drinks, beauty and more! Shop dozens of brands, textile recycling drop off, denim repair lab by MeWe and a clothing swap hosted by Global Fashion Exchange and Swap Society.
Plus, we want you to join in the conversation and share what simple self care is currently working for you by using the hashtag #sheselfcare! Tag any fair trade brands in your photos and we will be sure to tag them to give them a shout out if we repost on Instagram.
Fashion is a three trillion dollar global industry with high hidden costs for our world. Considered one of the most polluting industries on the planet, it is a major contributor to the destruction of our environment and the mistreatment of people and animals.
That's what the Fair Trade Fashion Show celebrates annually. We all connected to fashion, which means we all have the power to fix it.
