Africa: We All Have A Story

“Nothing I ever did I expected to do.”

Last summer while my husband was deployed, I packed my bags and ventured across the ocean to eastern AFRICA, Rwanda specifically. As soon as my feet hit the ground I remember thinking, “Well that was easy. All I had to do was get on a plane and here I am.”

Okay fine, it was a little more complicated than that, but the vast continent that could swallow the United States five times over suddenly seemed a lot smaller.

And that’s the beauty of travel. The idea that you and I could actually have an impact on someone’s life on the other side of the world suddenly seems realistic.

The beautiful people we met last summer, whose homes we sat in as they told us their stories… they are just like us. They happened to be born on the other side of the world, but we have the same dreams, the same love for our families, and the desire to help others. We all have a story, and we all want our lives to matter.

So, I’m packing my bags again. I’m traveling back to Rwanda and Uganda with a tribe of women who have tasted and seen that opportunity can squash poverty around the world. We believe that women here at home and women in developing countries need each other. The women I’m traveling with…they are fierce, and they have incredible projects in the works. You’ll meet them here over the next few weeks.

We are also honored to have the opportunity to serve with two organizations that you MUST know about – Africa New Life in Rwanda (, and Sole Hope (  in Uganda. More on each of them to come, as well.

Beauty. Resilience. Forgiveness. Coming at you from Rwanda and Uganda this November. May you be encouraged that your small, everyday shifts DO translate into substantial impact and opportunity for women just like you and me around the globe.

Dream and Do,
